I am a peaceful soul.

A Sacred Neighbors Gathering Reflection by Dipesh Bhatia

Om Shanti.

In the Brahma Kumari's tradition, Om Shanti is both a greeting and a reminder.

It means “I am a peaceful soul.”

And just for a moment…we can remember that together.

Perhaps we can take one quiet breath…and simply remember…

“I am a peaceful soul.”

In the Brahma Kumari's practice , we see ourselves not only through the roles we play in life — our professions, our responsibilities, or even our identities — but more deeply as souls, spiritual beings.

And the soul’s original qualities are peace, love, purity, and wisdom.

Yet in our busy lives, we often forget this.

We get caught up in deadlines, expectations, conflicts, and the many roles we carry.

And when we forget who we truly are, we sometimes lose touch with that inner peace.

But what I find beautiful about the teaching behind Om Shanti is that it reminds us that peace is not something we have to create or chase.

Peace is already there it is part of our original nature.

Sometimes we simply need to pause… and remember.

One teaching from the Brahma Kumari's tradition that has deeply resonated with me is the idea that one thought can change everything.

Our thoughts are very powerful.

A single thought influences how we feel.

Our feelings influence the words we speak.

And our words shape the actions we take in the world.

So if a thought is negative, fearful, or reactive, it can quickly shape our experience and even our relationships.

But if a thought is peaceful… kind… or elevated… it has the power to change the direction of the moment….
